Its too late

Postby Marsh Monkey » Mon Oct 26, 2009 7:15 am

Back in '74, it was 2 days before Christmas, I was 17 years old - my mate Dave turned up at my home and persuaded me to go out and drop some acid. I'd done quite a few that year already and it was a pleasantly mild day so I didn't take much urging. He had some "window pane acid" - so-named due to its appearance - tiny rectangular transparent tablets. We took them and walked off, heading for Wormshill Valley, a safe and woody place about 4 miles out of town. It wasn't long before the familiar sensations started comming on; in my case, rubber bones, colours washing across the sky, a feeling of excitement and expectation. About half way, we were passing the house of some freaks that we knew but wern't planning on visiting. A girl I was friendly with, who happened to be with the guy who sold Dave the acid, came out of the house and stood at the gate to say hello as we were passing. We told her where we were heading and she smiled "you're tripping arn't you? Come in for a cup of tea" Inside were 3 others, there was a tension, I wanted to leave but accepted the offer of tea and sat on the floor. I remembered I had some weed in my pocket so proceeded to skin-up; this seemed to ease the tension and conversation stated flowing. The acid was affecting my manual dexterity and I suddenly felt like a stupid monkey. I felt the need to talk so I started a weird conversation with Dave which seemed to automatically happen while I sort of detached myself from it. It was like a philosophical debate/argument which quickly seemed to take on dreadful significance. The surroundings disappeared and there was a feeling that the argument had been going on for eternity until Dave said something that I couldn't reply to. It felt like the world was comming to an end and it was all my fault. The next thing I remember was sitting in the car with apocalyptic images of the the earth, burning. Powerful emotions were crushing me. "Its all too late, there's nothing we can do" was all I could think. For some stupid reason, I was dropped off back home. I remember sitting in an armchair, my mother standing over me, hands on hips: "you've been taking drugs, haven't you?"
